Mom’s Flat Apple Pie
This handheld apple pie is ideal for on-the-go events like picnics or potlucks. Savor a moist slice without the typical pie mess! A special shoutout to my talented brother, who whipped up one of the delicious pies photographed for this recipe.

Ingredients:
Flour: 3 3/4 cups
Salt: 3/4 tsp
Shortening: 1 1/2 cupsLiquid mix: 1 egg yolk + milk (to make 1 cup)
Corn Flakes: 2-3 handfuls
Granny Smith Apples (sliced and cored): 8-10
Butter (cubed): 4-8 tbsp
Sugar: 1 cup + 1 tsp for topping
Cinnamon: 1 tsp
Egg: 1
Thin Frosting:
Powdered Sugar: 2/3 cup
Vanilla Extract: 2-3 dashes
Milk: as required for consistency
Directions:
(Note: We recommend a 15×10-inch cookie sheet pan for baking. Also, the number of apples can vary from 8-10 based on their size. We used 8 in our test batch.)
1. Mix ingredients for crust (which are the first 4 ingredients on the list).
2. Roll out half of the dough to fit a cookie sheet.
3. Sprinkle with Corn Flakes.
4. Place sliced apples on top of Corn Flakes.
5. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top of apples. Dot with butter.
6. Add top crust to cover.
7. Beat egg white and sugar and brush on top of pie. Cut a few slits in the top of the pie crust.
