Authentic Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings
This is a recipe that I have happily carried on with my family, generation to generation. I first learned this recipe from my great grandmother who learned it from her grandmother.
So when I say Authentic and old fashioned, this recipe is just that! So many memories have been made on those days when the families made Apple Dumplings, just the thought brings smiles.
Thes dumplings are so flavorful, warm and filling that I am hard-pressed to find a dessert that can come close to matching up.
Using simple ingredients, and crafting all of them together gives you a treat that is 5 Star Restaurant quality.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What type of apple is best to use for this recipe?
There is no certain type. However, Granny Smith or HoneyCrisp do work best for this recipe.
Should I make homemade pie crust?
I naturally prefer homemade over store bought, but you can use store bought and be just as satisfied with the end result.
Must I choose Apple Pie Spice?
This is just an easier option than having to measure each separate ingredient out. I prefer to use the Apple Pie Spice ready made to have the perfect measurements.
How do I store the remaining Dumplings?
I am sure there will be none remaining, however, if you do have some left, place them into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Sprinkle with any remaining Apple Pie Spice and sugar
Place the cake pan into the preheated oven and bake for 50 to 55 minutes, the crust should be golden and the apple inside should be easily subjected to a paring knife pressure
Remove from the oven and allow to cool halfway, you do want to serve the dumplings warm with a ladle full of the sauce from the baking pan.
