One of the benefits of making ANY recipe in the Crockpot is that you get to leave it alone and do something else. I love that my slow cooker makes meal time simple and hassle free.

This Crock pot pork roast will need to cook for 8-9 hours on low so it’s a great one to put on in the morning and let it do its thing while you do work, school, etc.

Does it matter what cut of meat I use for a pork roast?

It might seem crazy but it definitely matters. A pork tenderloin should never be cooked for such a long time. Tenderloin and roasts seem to be interchangeable in the pork world when it comes to labeling so make sure you check your packages to be sure you are getting a roast and not tenderloin.

A pork roast will benefit from low, slow, heat for a longer period of time. It allows some of that connective tissue to break down so the meat is nice and tender while also staying moist.

Tenderloin on the other hand doesn’t need a much time to cook and is better braised and roasted more quickly (at least in my experience/opinion)!

What do I need to make this Crock Pot pork roast at home?

We’re going to gather a few ingredients that are fresh but most of these items you will likely have on hand in your pantry. Be sure to check the recipe card at the bottom of the post for more information on amounts, nutritional, info, and serving sizes!

The only truly fresh ingredient you’ll need is the pork roast! The great news is that they freeze really well. If you are like me and keep things on hand for easy meals having a pork roast in the freezer is a smart move.

From the pantry grab the olive oil, salt and pepper, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, beef broth, balsamic vinegar, honey, and soy sauce. This is a pretty simple combination of ingredients but the flavors come together beautifully to compliment the pork roast!

Here’s how to make my slow cooker roast:

In a mixing bowl, combine the beef broth, balsamic vinegar, honey, and soy sauce and set aside. In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Italian seasonings and set aside.

Cover the roast with 1 tablespoon of the olive oil and cover the roast with the dry seasonings.

Score the top of the roast. Heat oil in a large skillet. Brown all sides of the roast, but do not cook the roast all the way through.

Spray slow cooker insert with cooking oil. Add the pork roast and pour liquid over the roast. Secure the slow cooker lid and cook on low for 8-9 hours or on high for 6-7 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°.

Open the slow cooker and remove the roast and place on a plate. Allow to rest 10 minutes before slicing.
