General Tso’s Chicken

This recipe is easy, delicious and has has amazing flavors. I made this for the first time last night and we all voted it was better than our local Chinese restaurant! So much delicious flavor!

This is also the recipe that helped me get over my fear of frying foods. I know it sounds silly, but it always freaked me out!

My husband and I really love this recipe!

What do you need to make General Tso’s Chicken

Chicken Sauce

2 tbsp light soy sauce

1 tbsp oyster sauce

1 tbsp rice wine vinegar

1 tbsp sesame oil

1 tsp chilli flakes

2 tbsp brown sugar

2 tbsp cornflour

1 cup chicken broth

Chicken

2lb chicken thigh, 1-inch cubes

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

2 tsp ginger, finely chopped

1 cup cornflour

2 cup vegetable oil

1 tbsp sesame seeds

4 green onions, thinly sliced

How to make General Tso’s Chicken

FIRST STEP:

In a bowl combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil and chilli flakes, set aside the marinade.

Place the chicken thigh, garlic, ginger and two tablespoons of the marinade into a zip-lock bag.

SECOND STEP:

Mix to coat the chicken in marinade then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Into the bowl of remaining marinade add brown sugar, cornflour and chicken stock, set the sauce aside.

THIRD STEP:

Once the chicken has marinated remove from the ziplock bag and place in a bowl with one cup of cornflour.

Toss the chicken in the cornflour to coat all sides.

FOURTH STEP:

Place a saucepan on medium heat and add the vegetable oil.

Heat the oil to 375F, shake the excess cornflour from the chicken pieces and place the chicken into the oil.

FIFTH STEP:

Fry the chicken in batches until crispy and golden, approximately 3 minutes, then transfer to a plate lined with kitchen paper.

While the chicken fries prepare the sauce, place a saute pan on medium heat and pour in the bowl of sauce.

SIXTH STEP:

Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes until thickened and glossy.

Quickly toss the crispy chicken through the thickened sauce.

Serve General Tso’s Chicken immediately, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.
