Hazelnut cream stuffed churros

Ingredients:

FOR THE CHURROS:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil for frying

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

CHURROS:

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the flour. Stir until the mixture forms a ball.
  3. Allow the dough to cool for a few minutes, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Transfer the dough to a pastry bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a large, deep pan to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Pipe the churro dough directly into the hot oil, using scissors to cut the dough at the desired length. Fry until golden brown, turning to cook all sides evenly. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

HAZELNUT CREAM FILLING:

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the hazelnut spread for about 20-30 seconds to soften it.
  2. In a separate saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just below boiling.
  3. Pour the hot cream over the softened hazelnut spread and whisk until smooth.

COATING:

  1. In a shallow bowl, mix together granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.

ASSEMBLY:

  1. Once the churros are cool enough to handle, use a small piping tip or a knife to create a hole in the center of each churro.
  2. Fill a piping bag with the hazelnut cream and pipe the filling into the center of each churro.
  3. Roll each filled churro in the cinnamon-sugar coating until well coated.
