Orange cake is a delightful and refreshing dessert option. Here’s a simple recipe for making an orange cake:

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the orange glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • Zest of 1 orange (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven and prepare the cake pan:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

2. Make the cake batter:

  • In a medium mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs to the butter-sugar mixture, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Mix in the fresh orange juice and orange zest until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract until incorporated.

3. Bake the cake:

  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it out evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  • Then, transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.

4. Make the orange glaze:

  • In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and fresh orange juice until smooth and pourable. Adjust the consistency by adding more or less orange juice as needed.

5. Glaze the cake:

  • Once the cake is completely cooled, place it on a serving plate.
  • Drizzle the orange glaze over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  • Sprinkle additional orange zest over the top of the cake for garnish, if desired.

6. Serve and enjoy:

  • Slice the orange cake and serve it as a delicious dessert or snack. It pairs perfectly with a cup of tea or coffee.

This orange cake is moist, flavorful, and bursting with citrus goodness. Enjoy!
