1. Shape and Season: Begin by molding the ground beef into three patties, ensuring they match the shape of your rye bread slices. Season each patty generously on both sides with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper for enhanced flavor infusion.

2. Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties until they’re thoroughly cooked, achieving a delightful sear on each side. Once cooked, set the patties aside.

3. Create the Secret Sauce: Combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish in a small bowl until thoroughly mixed. This secret sauce adds a distinct and flavorful touch to the patty melts.

4. Prepare for Assembly: Clean the skillet and reduce the heat to medium. Butter one side of each rye bread slice. Arrange three slices, with the buttered side down, in the skillet.

5. Assemble the Patty Melts: Layer two slices of provolone cheese, a cooked beef patty, and two slices of cheddar cheese on each bread slice in the skillet. Spread a portion of the secret sauce on the non-buttered side of the remaining bread slices, then position them, sauce side down, atop the cheddar cheese.

6. Cook to Perfection: Allow the provolone to melt and the bread to toast to a golden brown before carefully flipping the patty melts. Cook until the second side is toasted, and the cheddar cheese has melted.

7. Serve and Enjoy: Once both sides of the patty melts are perfectly toasted and the cheese is gooey and melted, remove them from the skillet. Optionally, slice them, and serve piping hot.
