Smothered turkey wings are a flavorful and comforting dish, perfect for a hearty meal. Here’s a simple recipe to make them:
Ingredients:
- 4 turkey wings
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons vegetable oil or butter
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy)
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Season the turkey wings generously with salt and pepper.
- Dredge the turkey wings in the flour, shaking off any excess.
- Heat the vegetable oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Brown the turkey wings in the skillet on all sides, about 5 minutes per side. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the skillet.
- Transfer the browned turkey wings to a baking dish large enough to fit them in a single layer.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Pour the chicken broth into the skillet and stir to deglaze, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Add the dried thyme, dried sage, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using) to the skillet. Stir to combine.
- Pour the broth mixture over the turkey wings in the baking dish.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until the turkey wings are tender and cooked through.
- Once the turkey wings are cooked, remove them from the baking dish and set aside.
- Pour the liquid from the baking dish into a saucepan. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the 1/4 cup of flour with 1/2 cup of water until smooth. Gradually whisk the flour mixture into the liquid in the saucepan.
- Cook the gravy, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Serve the smothered turkey wings hot, topped with the gravy and garnished with chopped fresh parsley if desired.
- Enjoy your delicious smothered turkey wings with your favorite side dishes!
This dish is perfect for a comforting family meal and is sure to be a hit at the dinner table.
