“What Happened To Him Is Tragic…”

Simon Cowell Opens Up About Bike Accidents and Their Impact on His Life

Simon Cowell, known for his role as a judge on America’s Got Talent, recently shared how two bike accidents in the span of two years have affected his perspective on life. During a recent episode of the Today Show, Cowell discussed the incidents with hosts Terry Crews, Howie Mandel, and Heidi Klum, along with his fellow judges.

A Wake-up Call to Fitness

Reflecting on the accidents, Cowell admitted that prior to the incidents, he was in poor physical condition. The accidents served as a wake-up call, making him realize his lack of fitness. He expressed his astonishment at the amount of follow-up work required after the accidents, which shed light on his overall unfitness.

“But I was so unfit before the accident,” Cowell said. “So it wasn’t terrific, just terrible. And it wasn’t until I had to undertake all the follow-up work that I realized how unfit I was. ‘My god!’ I exclaimed.”

Despite the accidents, Cowell made it clear that he has no intention of giving up biking, stating, “I’m still going to stay on my bike, I’m obsessed with these things.” His co-stars found his commitment to biking amusing.

A Shift Towards Healthier Living

Following the accidents, Cowell’s fiancée, Lauren Silverman, inspired him to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The well-being of his nine-year-old son, Eric, played a significant role in his decision. Cowell expressed concern about not being able to fully engage in activities with his son due to his injuries.

“Because I didn’t know how to express it to Eric, I felt quite depressed,” Cowell revealed. “I was limited in what I could accomplish with him. I wasn’t sure if I would ever be able to play football with him or walk again.”

Cowell and Silverman welcomed Eric into the world on Valentine’s Day in 2014. Cowell shared that his son gave him the nickname “Iron Man” after he returned home following the bike accident that resulted in a fractured back. Despite feeling embarrassed about the incident, Cowell now has metal rods and screws in his back as a result of the necessary medical procedure.

“He said, ‘Dad, you look like Iron Man.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I’m like Iron Man!’” Cowell recounted.

Finding Humor in Mishaps

Cowell has developed a sense of humor about his mishaps and has even made light of them. During an episode of AGT, after watching a father-son duo perform a daring Shaolin Kung Fu act, host Terry Crews asked Cowell if he could envision himself doing such acts with his son.

“I sort of got to the point after I fractured my back where I’m going around the garden with him, and I think it’s a huge deal,” Cowell jokingly responded. “And while I do so, I think, ‘Maybe not so great!’”

Simon Cowell’s bike accidents have had a profound impact on his life, prompting him to prioritize his fitness and appreciate the importance of being able to fully participate in activities with his son. Despite the challenges he faced, Cowell maintains his passion for biking and finds humor in his mishaps, showcasing his resilience and positive outlook on life.
